Hostess: Melissa Thornton at the
Bold Colorful Life Inn
Enjoy a sure-to-be-beautiful
end-of-May long weekend at Melissa Thornton’s Bold Colorful Life
Inn, in Boothbay Maine
Located in Boothbay, in mid-coast Maine, the Inn offers
stunning views of the Back River, where you can swim or
kayak…or watch the local eagles and osprey dip for their
dinner in the cove at the bottom of the lawns…. or
wander through the gardens….listen to the chorus of
spring peepers and bullfrogs on the freshwater
pond….enjoy a hammock….come away from it all….catch your
breath….read about it all
here.
And within 10 miles are
opportunities to hike, paddle kayaks, shop, visit
galleries, hunt for puffins or whales, wander the
world-famous Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, explore
lighthouses…museums…historic houses…the list is endless.

Activities:
FRIDAY: Check-in is any time after 2p. Cocktails will be
served at 5p and then dinner is on our own. Melissa's
suggestion is that we allgather at the nearby
Watershed Tavern for oven-fired
pizza and locally crafted beer....salads and burgers
are available there too!
301
Adams Pond Rd, Boothbay, ME. 04537
Please note: At the end of each night, in true Mt
Holyoke tradition, ‘milk and crackers’ will be available in both buildings at the Inn.
(These days, they'll include g.f., organic, etc.
options)
SATURDAY, May 30th: Saturday
morning, we’ll gather around the barn-door dining table
in the Farmhouse at the Inn for a bold and bountiful hot
brunch buffet, including creative eggs, fruit salad, a
myriad of bagels, muffins and pastries, fruit juice and
your choice of hot drinks.
**The
refrigerators in each house will have room for you to
store your special dietary items. Just be sure to label
them.
Brunch will be followed by a wonderful wander around the
Coastal Maine Botanical
Gardens. It
takes about 90 minutes to enjoy it all.
And in the early
afternoon, options are many:
-
1.
Those
who are up for an adventure trip will drive together
to Camden Maine (a beautiful hour-long trip up the
Maine coast) where we will (your choice) either
drive up Mount Battie or hike up the mountain. The
views of the Camden harbor and the ocean and islands
beyond are memorable. Or visit the
Farnsworth Museum
in Rockland (home of Andrew and Jamie Wyeth’s
works.)
-
2.
Those who'd like a shorter trip will
visit the
Frances Perkins homestead
in Damariscotta and have a tour of the waterfront
grounds and house, hopefully, by her grandson,
Tomlin Coggeshall.
-
3.
You can
also relax on site or enjoy the Boothbay peninsula:
wander the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden for a
longer period, hike any of
13 Boothbay Region Land Trust preserves,
stroll through Boothbay Harbor shops and galleries…
-
4.
Or book
any of a variety of local tours to wander nearby
harbors, whale watch, deep sea fish or island hop.
More detail about all of these options in the next
Email Blast….
SATURDAY
LOBSTER BAKE:
Saturday night,
around 7pm, there will be a catered Lobster-Bake*
for the entire
group at the Bold Colorful Life Inn. *Substitute
menu items will be available. The price will be in the
$35 dollar range, depending on lobster costs. And we
will need your commitment ASAP for the caterer.
SUNDAY, May 31st: Sunday breakfast buffet will be held
at the Inn, followed by a wander around Boothbay Harbor
shops and galleries…or any of the activities detailed
below.
Sunday, early afternoon, all those who are seaworthy and
adventurous will take an
Audubon Puffin and Scenic
Cruise from
Boothbay Harbor 1 pm to 3:30p. The boat takes off
from/returns to Boothbay Harbor. The cost is $41.00 and
sign-up should be ASAP to ensure we get tickets. Some
dates are already booked!
After more wandering around Boothbay Harbor or taking
nearby hikes in the afternoon, we’ll return to the Inn
for cocktails.
Or for those who need to get home, you can be back to
the Inn by about 4pm, with lots of daylight left for
travel.
Sunday night,
dinner will be on our own at one of the Boothbay Harbor
restaurants. More detail will be shared in a later
message, so we can make a reservation.
MONDAY, June 1st:
Buffet breakfast will be available as you pack up and
ready yourselves for your trip home…where you will
commence an even more ‘bold and colorful life’. :-) Checkout
will be midday Monday, or as agreed.
In addition to these events and meals:
1.
All classmates are invited to wander the 15 acre
waterfront estate, stopping to experience the 50 marked
Forest Bathing
sites.
2.
Or take a stroll on the newly expanded Enchanted
Circle and perhaps build a fairy house on the
Fairy Walk.
3.
We have
6 adult kayaks
for Inn guest use, lots of hiking poles, badminton and
volleyball games, etc.
4.
Also, we may gather for early morning or late
afternoon YOGA with views of the pond or Back River.

And we may create a Women’s Circle with singing
crystal bowls and drums.
