Down to the Sea in Ships. . .and Kayaks!

Afloat, afoot, or on wheels, Boothbay Harbor has so much to do that you might have a hard time fitting everything in!

Our harbor bustles with fishing vessels and pleasure craft in equal numbers. Board one of the many excursion boats to enjoy a harbor tour, savor an island lobster bake, cruise out to explore Monhegan Island, or spend the day watching seals, puffins and whales. Explore the region's countless coves and inlets while experiencing some of the best sea kayaking available anywhere.

Take a romantic evening sail aboard a Friendship sloop or a schooner and listen to the stories of seasoned captains, some of whom have sailed the seven seas.

See the handiwork of local boat yards, which continue the tradition in state-of-the art materials, keeping alive our heritage of world-class boat builders.

On land, explore some of more than a dozen nature trails, many of them offer spectacular ocean views.

Stroll our flower-lined streets and visit the boutiques, antique shops, and art galleries along the way, then catch a play or concert at our Historic Opera House.

Don't miss the touch tank at the Marine Resources Aquarium, and be sure to ride the narrow gauge steam train to a barn filled with antique autos at the Railway Village.

Children can also enjoy mini golf, or try their luck in the vintage candlepin bowling lanes.

Visit the Historical Society in Boothbay Harbor and the Museum in Southport to learn about ice cutting and ship building in days gone by.

Boothbay Harbor is also an excellent central location from which to explore the mid-coast.

Historic Bath is home to the Maine Maritime Museum (30 minutes); the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a must-see (50 minutes), and the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland has an impressive collection of Wyeths, Homers, and more (60 minutes).

Other interesting sights in Mid-Coast and Down East Maine are an easy day trip away. You'll find a comprehensive list of activities listed here to help you plan your trip.

In fact, there's so much to do in Boothbay Harbor, we're sure you'll want to return again and again!
