Hostess: Melissa Thornton at the Bold Colorful Life Inn

Enjoy a sure-to-be-beautiful mid-October weekend at Melissa’s Bold Colorful Life Inn, in Boothbay Maine!

Located in Boothbay, in midcoast Maine, the Inn offers stunning views of the Back River, where you can swim, kayak and canoe…or watch the local eagles and osprey dip for their dinner in the cove at the bottom of the lawns…. or wander through the gardens….listen to the bullfrogs on the freshwater pond….enjoy a hammock….come away from it all…catch your breath….read about it all here.

And within 10 miles are opportunities to hike, shop, visit galleries, hunt for whales, wander the world-famous Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, play golf, explore lighthouses…the list is endless.

Activities:

FRIDAY: Check-in is any time after 4p. Cocktails will be served at 5p and then dinner will be an informal gathering at the nearby Watershed Tavern for oven-fired pizza and locally crafted beer....salads and burgers are available there too! They are holding their big community table for us at about 6:30-7p Friday night. Any one arriving after 6:30p, just come on over:
http://www.boothbaycraftbrewery.com/  301 Adams Pond Rd, Boothbay, ME. 04537

Please note: At the end of each night, in true Mt Holyoke tradition, ‘milk and crackers’ will, of course, be available in both buildings at the Inn.

SATURDAY: Saturday morning, we’ll gather around the barn-door dining table in the Farmhouse at the Inn for a bold and bountiful brunch buffet, including french toast or omelettes, fruit salad, a myriad of bagels, muffins and croissants, juice and your choice of hot drinks.

1. The suggested activity is our own “Mountain Day”: we will drive to Camden Maine (a beautiful hour-long trip up the Maine coast) where we will (your choice) either drive up Mount Battie or hike up the mountain. The views of the Camden harbor and the ocean and islands beyond are memorable.
Then perhaps we’ll wander through Camden and then through the Farnsworth Museum (home of N.C, Andrew and Jamie Wyeth's works) in Rockland, and have dinner, on our own, at the delightful Primo’s in Rockland; then home to the Bold Colorful Life Inn…for more milk and crackers, of course.

2. For those who would like to stay closer to ‘home’, there are hikes around the Ovens Mouth East preserve, or Porter Preserve, both within 10 minutes drive. These hikes can be followed by intensive time in the hammocks, near the gas fireplace, or just relaxing with friends at the Inn. Other hikes can be found here:
http://www.bbrlt.org/ Dinner is ‘on your own’ in the Boothbay area, and suggestions include McSeagull’s or the Boathouse Bistro.

3. If neither of these capture you, other activity options are many: relax on site or enjoy the Boothbay peninsula: stroll through Boothbay Harbor shops and galleries, wander around our scenic drives or book any of a variety of local tours to wander nearby harbors, deep sea fish or island hop...or attend the Fall Foliage Festival on the green at the Railway Village. Dinner is ‘on your own’ in the Boothbay area, and suggestions include McSeagull’s or the Boathouse Bistro.

SUNDAY: Sunday breakfast will be held at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Sunday breakfast will be followed by a wonderful wander around the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens...a typical wander usually takes about 2-3 hours.

And in the early afternoon, there are several outings to choose from:
1.  There is a wonderful high-end crafts fair on the green at the Railway Village, called the Fall Foliage Festival...it's about 2 miles from the Inn and there will be 80-100 booths with various crafts. Great timing for Christmas shopping, good food bites throughout the day, and there's music all day each day, as well.

2. For those who would like to get some more exercise, there are hikes around the Ovens Mouth East preserve, or Porter Preserve, both within 10 minutes drive. These hikes can be followed by intensive time in the hammocks, near the gas fireplace, or just relaxing with friends at the Inn. And there are kayak rentals at Tidal Transit in Boothbay Harbor, if you're a paddler.

3. For those who are up for a hike, but not through Mother Nature, there is the option to wander through the shops and galleries of Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, or Damariscotta. Melissa will provide a list of shops and galleries and other local places of interest.
Sunday night, there will be a catered Lobster-Bake* for the entire group at the Bold Colorful Life Inn. *Substitute menu items will be available.
